YOUR FIELD, YOUR CHOICE, IT IS UP TO YOU

Senior High School aims to prepare students before entering college, equipping them with the global skills, competencies, and knowledge needed to achieve successful career paths in the future.

For Grade 10 completers, it means embarking on a new academic journey. It may seem intimidating at first, especially as you decide which strand to take or which school to enroll in, but finding the right track and strand that matches your strengths and skills will surely help ease your nerves to get you going.

💬----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Why is it Important to Choose the Right Senior High School Track or Strands?

Senior High School is two years (Grade 11 and Grade 12) of specialized upper secondary education and will require you to pick among different tracks upon enrollment.  Your chosen track and strand will reflect on the subjects you will take.

These different tracks, strands, and specializations are intended for you to determine which paths fit your strengths, passions, and skills. Choosing the right Senior High School strand will help motivate you for your future career. Once you choose a strand you like, studying becomes more enjoyable since the strands are designed and specialized to match your interests. Moreover, it expands your knowledge and skills, while at the same time, exposing you to your chosen field of study in preparation for college.

Tips on Choosing the Right SHS Track or Strands

Before choosing the desired track or strands, make sure to research. Identify possible careers and job opportunities in the future and look into average salary offers. It should help you start visualizing what you want to do, and therefore choosing the right track to jumpstart your career.

Next, consider yourself. Assess strengths, weaknesses, interests, and skills that will help lead you to a fruitful academic journey and, eventually, a successful career. In addition, get advice from school guidance counselors, seniors, or loved ones. People who have been down that path before may help you weigh the pros and cons of a certain track or strand.

In summary, your chosen Senior High School strand will help you pursue your passions and jumpstart your careers in the future. Whether you choose to enroll in ABM, Arts and Design, HUMSS, ICT-Animation, ICT-Programming, or STEM, make sure to keep your goals, motivations, and strengths in mind. Moreover, choose a school that is ready to provide you with a creative and innovative environment and nurture your talents and potentials.

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a parallel learning system in the Philippines that provides opportunities for out-of-school youth and adult (OSYA) learners to develop basic and functional literacy skills, and to access equivalent pathways to complete basic education. As a second chance education program, it aims to empower OSYA learners to continue learning in a manner, time, and place suitable to their preference and circumstances, and for them to achieve their goals of improving their quality of life and becoming productive contributors to society.

The Alternative Learning System (ALS) is a free education program implemented by the Department of Education (DepEd) under the Bureau of Alternative Learning System which benefits those who cannot afford formal schooling and follows whatever is their available schedule. The program provides a viable alternative to the existing formal education instruction, encompassing both the non-formal and informal sources of knowledge and skills.

ALS is a ladderized, modular non-formal education program in the Philippines for dropouts in elementary and secondary schools, out-of-school youths, non-readers, working Filipinos and even senior citizens. It is part of the education system of the Philippines but an alternative to the regular classroom studies where learners are required to attend daily. The alternative system only requires students to choose schedules according to their choice and availability.

OVERVIEW OF ICT STRAND

ICT is? The TVL – ICT strand helps students learn how to write computer programs, illustrate, and design websites, how to animate, and all about java programming.

💻 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Information Communication and Technology or ICT Strand is one of the strands offered under Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) Track of K-12 curriculum. ICT strand subjects seek to teach students concepts and skills in information technology. This will also help them hone their skills in animation and illustration which will help them thrive in the creative field. Aside from these, ICT strand will also cover telecom installation and medical transcription.

The TVL-ICT curriculum includes courses that cover a wide range of topics in information technology, such as computer hardware and software, programming languages, networking, and web development. It also includes courses that teach students about entrepreneurship, work ethics, and communication skills.

The TVL-ICT strand emphasizes hands-on training and experiential learning through various practical activities, including software development projects, networking simulations, and web design projects. Students are also required to undergo on-the-job training to gain real-world work experience and develop their skills further.

The Objectives of the ICT Strand

The ICT strand in SHS is designed to equip senior high school students with the necessary technical skills to tackle the IT industry. Graduates are expected to be able to do the following after receiving their education:

  • Utilize industry standard equipment and to think critically and solve problems involving software, hardware, and other digital domains
  • Be confident and familiar with standard tech and software necessary to carry out tasks expected of them in order to contribute meaningfully to their respective teams
  • To apply knowledge acquired from their ICT strand subjects with decisiveness and experience when pursuing further education or applying oneself in a profession fresh out of senior high school

"The ICT strand are designed to equip students with both the technical expertise expected of professionals in their field by way of their classes in technologies, programming, and media information literacy."

Advantages of the ICT STRAND

Enrolling in the ICT strand for SHS gives senior high school graduates valuable knowledge that enables them to either dive immediately into technical professions befitting their interests and specializations, or to pursue further studies aligned with their track. Here are some valuable advantages students can gain from the ICT strand subjects in Grade 11 and the ICT strand subjects in Grade 12:

  • Graduates can confidently jump into the path of their choosing knowing that their track has given them ample preparation — whether they want to build specializations by taking up further studies or they wish to begin working as soon as possible
  • Senior high school students in this track receive valuable experience in practical applications of their knowledge which they can maximize in both solo and team projects, shaping them valuable members of any workplace
  • Students can build a better appreciation of the advancing technology of today, while being exposed to opportunities that encourage them to think about how they can safeguard and contribute to one of the world’s most dynamic industries.
